Grana, Matteson, Hamilton camp opposes transparency/continues anti-religion rant

Time out!

Stop arguing that property taxpayers who happen to have a connection to Catholic education cannot serve on a public school board.

That’s the argument being made by supporters of Jennifer Grana, Kate Matteson, and Jennifer Hamilton.  It seems to be a theme being pushed by their campaign for seats on the Sparta Board of Education.

After someone with the campaign of Grana-Matteson-Hamilton sent in a letter attacking opponents Karen Scott and Chris Arnold for their service as music teachers at Pope John High School, we gave candidates Jennifer Grana, Kate Matteson, and Jennifer Hamilton the opportunity to correct what we saw as an illogical and bigoted position. We would have happily published their point of view, just to give them the opportunity to explain why they thought Catholics should not be allowed to serve on the Sparta School Board.

Instead, another supporter with the campaign doubled down with another letter that brought up the connection with Pope John High School.  Will these bigots never stop?

This new letter-writer made the false claim that the Scott-Arnold-Serrano team she opposes sent out a mailer. We’ve seen the mailer and it is clear who sent it out.  Either the letter writer is a liar or semi-literate.

She also must know that the First Amendment to the Bill of Rights of The Constitution of the United States of America takes precedence over EVERYTHING and ANYTHING else.  So long as the school board has the power to impose a property tax on people and collect that tax, those taxpayers have the UNDISPUTED RIGHT to comment on those who are running for election to that school board.

When you place your name on the ballot for school board, you acknowledge that along with the POWER to raise people’s property taxes comes the acceptance that you, as a candidate for public office, will come under scrutiny.  That your past actions, statements, and positions as a candidate for other elected offices is fair and proper areas of scrutiny and review. TO SUGGEST OTHERWISE FLIES IN THE FACE OF TRANSPARENCY AND OPEN GOVERNMENT!

If you don’t want such scrutiny, don’t seek the power to tax your fellow human beings.

How many families have been crushed – forced into foreclosure and homelessness – because the people elected to the school board did not undergo the necessary scrutiny and only too late revealed themselves to have little care for the concerns of taxpayers?  Never again!

Get used to scrutiny.

Sussex Dems' poor timing: Anti-Trump rally in Newton the day before a terrorist attack?

Do you remember Kate & Gina?  Those two Democrats who ran for the Legislature as part of Phil Murphy's team.  Well they've been in the news again.

On Saturday evening, the day before running mate Gina Trish would rally on Newton Green in favor of a "no-questions-asked" travel policy for countries that even the United Nations says are infected by violent Islamic extremism, the insiders who compose the "executive board" of the Sussex County Democrat Committee (SCDC) named Kate Matteson as their executive director.  Not the entire county committee, mind you, just the insiders on the executive board.  So they're "democratic" in name only... what's new about that?

The boss of the little politburo that runs the SCDC -- Leslie Huhn -- worked herself up into her usual lather and issued a statement about the "vicious attacks" Matteson had to endure from those mean Republicans.  Leslie won't tell you this, but she voted Republican until a legislator happened to forget her name.  It pissed her off to no end.  Out of spite, she ran against the woman and spit all kinds of bile at her.  And so began Leslie's career in politics.  Yep, she's in it for all the right reasons... pride, with a dollop of hate thrown in.

Hey, it's all personal for some people, but before you go throwing around words like "vicious" -- maybe you should think back to how your committee and your state committeeperson, and your candidates, tried to destroy the reputation of a family and its business and the livelihoods of its employees.  Nobody did that to Dr. Matteson.  Nobody called the school to complain about you, Leslie.  Nobody called Centenary College to complain about Gina Trish.

You see, it is all a question of perceived entitlement.  Kate, Gina, and Leslie all believe that they are entitled to take any position they want and to trash anybody they want to trash, and nobody is supposed to fight back.  And when somebody does, these Democrats become outraged.  They say it's not fair.  They call for a time out, put on their pussy cat hats and go to the Green and protest how unfair the world is and how against them it all is.

Gina Trish has every right to front a rally on Newton Green in favor of a "no-questions-asked" travel policy for countries that are infected by violent Islamic extremism, but when -- the very next day -- someone from one of those countries infected by Islamic extremism attempts to blow up Americans commuting to work in New York City... somebody else has the right to bring it up and say, "Hey Gina, hey Sussex County Democrats, what the hell are you thinking!"  Free speech works both ways.  If you want to be in politics, you are going to need to grow up and get used to it.

If you are going to condemn "hate" and say you support "respectful discourse," then you cannot have your photo taken vandalizing the free speech of someone who disagrees with you.  Tearing up their posters, throwing them on the ground, stomping on them, shoveling snow on them... these are not respectful acts.  In fact, these are the well documented antics of the National Socialists.  Why don't you just burn the words that you disagree with!  Do it up if it makes you feel better, but don't confuse yourself with a "democrat" when you do.  Democracy requires goodwill, patience, and -- most of all -- humility.  All of which seems in short supply.

And finally.  We all remember the good time Kate and Gina and Leslie had calling Parker and Jill Space names because they happened to attend a Hank Williams Jr. concert and were photographed next to the band's banner which (oh heaven forbid!) features what used to be called "a rebel flag."  Well... you just spent the day before a terrorist attack protesting for weaker laws to combat terrorism.  If you want to call someone a "racist" over a band's banner, be prepared to be called at the very least an "enabler of terrorism."  It works both ways.

Should a letter now go out to every board member and donor to Centenary College demanding the same of them that was demanded of the customers of Space Farms?  Or do we treat each other like neighbors who just happen to have different points of view?

It is time for Kate, Gina, and Leslie to look into their hearts and acknowledge that it is they who behaved very badly and that it was only in response to their bad behavior that they felt any heat at all.  Only in response to their bad behavior.

Going forward, they have the opportunity to behave like human beings instead of entitled ideologues.  For the good of the community, we suggest that they take the opportunity.

Anti-hunter Dan Perez shows up to NRA dinner?

For years, readers of the New Jersey Herald and the Star-Ledger have been reading about how New York lawyer Dan Perez has represented anti-hunting activists against taxpayers exercising their legal right to hunt.  Perez even represented an anti-hunt activist who targeted hunters with personal harassment.  And Perez sued law enforcement when they tried to do something about it.

Democrat candidate for Freeholder Dan Perez representing anti-hunter activist Susan Kehoe in August 2017. Perez also represented Kehoe on another charge in 2012.

Democrat candidate for Freeholder Dan Perez representing anti-hunter activist Bill Crain in 2016. Crain has been convicted on multiple charges of harassing taxpayers who are exercising their legal right to hunt.

Democrat candidate for Freeholder Dan Perez representing anti-hunter activist Bill Crain in 2014. Crain was jailed for his actions in December 2016.

So how is Dan Perez "pro-second amendment" when he is so anti-hunter?

And who convinced Perez, who nobody recalls seeing at earlier NRA dinners, to attend last night's event?  Could it be that now that Perez is the Democrat Party candidate for Freeholder, he is looking to scam a few votes?

At the NRA dinner, Perez, a consummate county insider, was seen cavorting with a quorum of county freeholders.  He even managed to get himself announced at the event.  Anything for a vote, right?

But this is a very strange development given Dan Perez' lifelong involvement with anti-hunting and animal rights groups.  Are they aware that his new GOP friends are promoting him within the NRA?  Somebody is going to be disappointed.

Local Democrats embrace liberal ACLU agenda

The local Democrats running for office this year have gone whole hog over to the dark side.  Now they are attacking the Republicans for not having the support of those party-poopers at the ACLU who want to do away with Christmas and other holidays that normal people enjoy.

Yep, Jennifer Hamilton, Kate Matteson, Gina Trish, and Dan Perez are joining forces with those people who sue local governments (taxpayers) every time they put up a Christmas display.  Yes, these are the same folks who go apoplectic every time someone says a prayer at a public event.  And yet, somehow it is okay for these same Democrats to display banners with Islamic symbols and Wiccan witchcraft symbols on it.

Is this a case of "out with the old religion and in with the new"?

In the case of Republican Assemblyman Parker Space, the ANTIFA twins Kate & Gina attacked him for refusing to vote to allow convicted criminals in prison unlimited access to taxpayer-subsidized telephones.  Kate & Gina also criticized Assemblyman Space for not backing President Obama's decree that would have allowed anatomical males -- people with penises who think they are women -- into the private facilities of school girls (i.e. toilet facilities, showers, and changing areas).  Apparently, Kate & Gina think that the Republican is wrong for having concern for the safety of young women.

But who is really wrong here?  Is Assemblyman Space wrong for opposing legislation that would endanger the lives of women and girls in New Jersey.  Or are Kate Matteson & Gina Trish wrong (along with their Democrat running mates Jennifer Hamilton and Dan Perez) for putting politically correct fashion statements ahead of the safety of women and girls.  Watch this video and then YOU decide:

Local Democrats play games on illegal immigration

Where do they stand?  Are they or aren't they?

Local Democrat candidates have made contradictory statements on illegal immigration -- saying one thing in a questionnaire, another at a private meeting, something else at a vigil on the Green, a different thing in the newspaper, and still something else again at a public debate.  It is tough to keep up with all their twists and turns on the issue of illegal immigration.

As a public service, we are featuring statements they made on the subject, like this one:

The only thing certain is this:  The Democrats and their party support turning New Jersey into a Sanctuary State.  Yep, the entire state.

What that means to New Jersey taxpayers is explained by former Mayor Steve Lonegan:

"A 'sanctuary state' will mean a huge influx of people who will need the social services safety net more than average.  The Democrat gubernatorial ticket has promised to impose a so-called 'millionaire's tax' that will chase away those who currently fund the state's social safety net.  Those who are left... the middle class who can't leave because of a job, or because they can't sell their home for what they paid for it, or because their child wants to finish school -- they will have to make up for the shortfall in higher taxes.

That won't be easy, because at 26.1% of income, the cost of living in New Jersey is, according to Bloomberg, by far the most expensive in the nation.  Meanwhile, state household income is nearly seven percent lower than it was in 2008 and has only grown by a little more than one percent since then.

Those coming to the new 'Sanctuary State' of New Jersey will enter the workforce of the gray economy, where the minimum wage doesn't apply.  But for everyone else it does -- which will leave trade union workers, manufacturing, medical care and health workers, service industry workers, and mothers with part-time jobs all at a disadvantage when competing for a job.  It will be bad news for people trying to pay their mortgage, their property taxes, those hoping to avoid foreclosure.

And just where will all these newcomers to the 'Sanctuary State of New Jersey' reside?  Why in subsidized sanctuary housing -- courtesy of COAH and its plan to build tens of thousands of new subsidized no-questions-asked units throughout New Jersey.

This will require massive infrastructure investment by taxpayers -- and an increase in property tax collections.  To pay for it, the Democrats intend to scrap the 2-percent cap on local government spending.  Under the Democrats property taxes rose an average of 6.1 percent a year -- triple the rate of inflation.  Since the cap, property taxes have gone up an average of just 2.1 percent a year."

"If the Democrats are successful with their idea, they will have to build a wall to keep taxpayers in," Lonegan said.  True enough.

Stay tuned...
